When Your Marriage Feels Stuck, It Can Be Hard to Know What to Do Next
Maybe you’re having the same arguments over and over, with neither of you feeling heard. Maybe the fighting has stopped, but only because you’ve stopped talking about anything that matters. You may feel lonely in your marriage, exhausted from trying, or increasingly resentful about how much has gone unresolved.
Sometimes the rupture is more obvious. An affair has turned your world upside down. One of you may be thinking about divorce while the other is desperate to save the marriage. Or perhaps nothing dramatic has happened at all, but you’ve been quietly wondering for months—or even years—whether your relationship can really change.
By the time couples come to see me, they’ve usually tried very hard to fix things themselves (or with another therapist). They may still love each other and feel completely stuck. They may not even agree about what the problem is, much less what to do about it.
You don’t need to have the answer before you come in.
Couples Work Is at the Heart of My Practice
I’m Jodie Rinde, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Fairfield, Connecticut. I’m not an individual therapist who simply happens to see couples. Couples work is what I do every day. I work with relationships that feel deeply stuck, couples recovering from betrayal, and people who aren’t sure whether their marriage can—or should—be saved.
My approach is warm and compassionate, but also active and direct. I won’t simply sit back and watch you have the same argument you have at home. Together, we’ll slow things down, understand the patterns that keep pulling you back into the same painful places, and begin to figure out what needs to change.
I’m not there to decide the future of your marriage for you or to tell you what you should do. My role is to help you see more clearly what is happening between you, have conversations that may have become impossible to have on your own, and help you find your way forward.
How I Can Help
For couples caught in recurring conflict, resentment or disconnection who want to understand what keeps going wrong and find a different way forward.
For couples navigating the shock of betrayal and trying to determine whether—and how—trust and the relationship can be rebuilt.
For couples at a crossroads when one or both partners are uncertain whether to stay married or separate.
For individuals struggling in their relationship whose partner won’t come to therapy, or who need help sorting through what they want and what comes next.
